Colliers International Open Kermesse – Saturday 23 July, Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport

Last Thursday was the official launch of the upcoming Run Ride Race 4 Research multi sport event to be held on Saturday July 23 which consists of an Open Kermesse cycling race to be conducted by our club, as well as a Gran Fondo (80km & 118km options), Cross Country MTB, 10km Trail Run, and Enduro Motocross events taking place on the same day.

The Run Ride Race for Research is the first and largest multi-sport event to be held in the Toowoomba region with the event aiming to raise over $50,000 for the It’s A Bloke Thing Prostate Foundation (IABT). The It’s a Bloke Thing Foundation flagship event is the Qantaslink It’s a Bloke Thing Prostate Cancer Luncheon which is held annually and has raised $3 million since its inception in 2011. Last year alone, the event raised more than $1.3 million dollars making it one of the largest daytime fundraising initiatives in Australia.

As well as raising much needed funds for Prostate Cancer Research the Foundation also sponsors the Qantaslink It’s a Bloke Thing Prostate Cancer Education Roadshow and in 2016 joined with Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and ManUp to fund and introduce a local Toowoomba Specialist Prostate Cancer Nurse to the region.

The Run Ride Race for Research event will add valuable dollars to the groups fundraising efforts but will also encourage men to talk about their health with other men, partners and families.

We hope that Bikeline Racing members will support the event by participating and hopefully offering some time as a volunteer, the roles needed to be filled will be advertised in coming weeks. There is significant prizemoney on offer for the Open Kermesse (see link for definition) which will hopefully attract some of the best riders across the SEQ corner and further afield. Guaranteed $1200 for first place across all divisions is a great incentive for all entrants and we hope that our local QRTS team Colliers Racing will taste success in their respective divisions. For the Kermesse the first division off will be Mens Masters C/D at 9am and culminates with Mens Elite A at 2:30pm. Tell your friends and family about this great new event, please get involved as it promises to be a fantastic initiative by Colliers International Toowoomba and the Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport to raise funds for the IABT Foundation.
