Race Report compiled by Jon Lindley

A Grade – 5 riders

A small but quality field. Trent West and Tom Gough backed up after racing at Murarrie earlier in the morning. Tom and visitor Alex Wohler put in a number of surges throughout the whole race. With about 5 to go Dean Russell popped off the back but Trent chased back on multiple times and it wasn’t until the approach of the final lap with a strong surge by the State of Matter MAAP rider that Trent was finally dropped. Tom managed to hang onto Alex’s wheel until the sprint. Alex being a known sprinter was too good for Tom. Alex also won the Prime.

1st Alex Wohler (SoM MAAP Racing)

2nd Tom Gough (TCC)

3rd Trent West (BLR)

B Grade – 9 riders

Dave Swann and Tom Galbraith went from the gun and built up a handy early lead. But the consistent pace of Peter York and Wayne Cooling brought them back to the pack. A number of attacks happened by different combinations of riders and eventually Peter along with Matt Hickey and Pedr Harvey got away following the Prime sprint. Dave Swann paid the price for his early attack and Richard Watson in his first B grade since his return (sorry Richard, it was a hard day), both retiring, a sign of the relentless pace the front 3 were averaging. With about 10 minutes to go before the lap boards came out Yorky put the foot down and dropped Matt and Pedr. He then built a sizable lead enough to easily take the win. Matt gapped Pedr with ½ a lap to go to take 2nd. Matt also took the Prime.

1st Peter York (BLR)

2nd Matthew Hickey (BLR)

3rd Pedr Harvey (BLR)

C grade – 10 riders

The group stayed together for the first half of the race. Jacob Norgren moved up from D grade today and hung on well until the halfway mark. Here the pace exploded with the contesting of the Prime. Dave Edwards (HRCC) went early and Benjamin Oon chased hard to win the Prime. Ground was gained by the sprinters but they were eventually brought back to the pack. Here Alison Sullivan showed her true colours and was rarely seen off the front pushing the pace for the rest of the race until the final lap. Again Dave went early with a solid burst and held out Ben this time. David Edwards (BLR) rode well to pick up third.

1st Dave Edwards (HRCC)

2nd Benjamin Oon (TCC)

3rd David Edwards (BLR)

D grade – 4 riders

With the best numbers in D Grade for some time the pace was set for a solid race. All riders rode well but Jason was a little too strong for his fellow competitors. Well done to Claudia for her first hitout in 2016 and Vinnie Hendry is gradually finding his racing legs. Well done to all four riders.

1st Jason Page (BLR)

2nd Steve Walter (BLR)

3rd Claudia Sullivan (BLR)

Juniors – 3 riders

A good race with the two boys challenging each other toward the end of the race and Halli not far behind. Possibly a lack of water or the like left Daniel feeling not the best going into the last bit of the race so sensibly he pulled up. Dylan powered up the final bend to pick up the win and Halli not far behind in 2nd. Hope Daniel is feeling better this morning.

1st Dylan Hickey

2nd Halli West
