“The Great Bunya Challenge” (RTR Challenge Series)

The ‘Ride the Regions’ (RTR) Challenge Series is a new initiative of Cycling Queensland  aimed at providing a unique opportunity for cyclists to challenge themselves on exciting, scenic courses in South East QLD. The three timed Challenge rides in the series coincide with the final three rounds of the Brisbane Camperland QTRS.

The Great Bunya Challenge is the first event of the Ride the Regions (RTR) Challenge Series and provides participants with the testing challenge of finishing the undulating, scenic ride with a 24km climb to the top of the Bunya Mountains. The ride will depart Kingaroy at 7.00am and provide riders with two course options (108km and 71km) that both pass through Kumbia before commencing the ascent up the mountain. The ride will be timed and the 108km course will replicate Stage 2 of the Giro d’ South Burnett. It is a great opportunity to experience the fantastic riding environment of the region and take on one of the iconic climbs in the state. Bunya Mountains National Park will host the event finish and is the perfect setting to relax and reflect on the achievement of conquering the mountain. A bus is available for riders seeking a return trip to Kingaroy. The event is open to riders 15 years and over.
