After the wild weather of the past couple of days, we were greeted with dense fog on the drive out to Mt Tyson. There was water over the road in several spots which may be a cause of concern if it was over the course proper as well. After an early inspection it was deemed safe enough to race with one section having mud shovelled off the road and a nearby patch still having water trickle over the road.
With only 23 riders across the four grades it was decided to run a handicapped event of two laps of the 25km course. After Phil’s last effort at Boodua and a couple of other results recently, he was definitely not going to get any extra time today. He and two other riders were started with another five following at 5 minutes. The main bunch of 14 went at 11 minutes while Seb was set off at 11:30 minutes.
After the first lap Phil and Ryan had a lead of close to three minutes over the following five. With the next bunch through at 4 mins and then another bunch of about four riders at 4:40min , it looked like they be able to hold their lead for a while longer. There were a few stragellers coming in after the first lap with some pullling out then but some continued on.
The finish was looking like a bunch sprint with plenty of riders jockeying for postion coming down the main straight. In the end Seb Scott was able to hold out Daniel Devlin(2nd) and Peter York (3rd) to take the win. It was a blanket finish with fourth (Trent West) and fifth (Matt Haswell) just behind.
Congratulations to all the riders for coming out of town for the race and for keeping it safe on a trying course. Thank you to Jon for commissiaring again. Thanks to Damien and Highmy for bringing out the trailer and setting the signs up. Thanks to Moey Jr. and Dinah from Highfields for driving the follow vehicle.
